tough crowd

Yesterday morning we had planned to go cut down a christmas tree. The Chicagoland weather had other ideas for us. We asked the kids what they wanted to do, and Elijah said "go to the circus". I thought that was interesting, as he wasn't too thrilled with his previous circus experience, but it just so happened that the Ringling Brothers & Barnum & Bailey Circus was in town, and yesterday was the last day. Carpe Diem!

After a really great brunch at Victory's Banner, we headed down to the circus. After ascending to the very tippy top of the stadium and settling into our seats, the show began and Elijah's lip began to quiver. He climbed into my lap and buried his head into my shoulder, peeking tenatively around as I explained to him what was happening.

In the meantime, Izzie was totally into the show, dancing, clapping, laughing, pointing out animals, and parroting everything the ringleader and head clown were saying. She was hysterical.

Elijah got more and more brave as the show went on, and toward the end he was smiling and clapping too.

After the grand finale, I asked the kids if they liked the circus. Elijah said "no".

Izzie looked at me, very matter of factly, and said:

"Where's the camel?"
